Something to keep us steady in turbulent times

Welcome to October! Beautiful Libra energy, crisp leaves, cool mornings, and clear bright skies (at least some of the time… 🍂). I’m here with another tarot reading for your month ahead. If you know someone who’d like this info, please feel free to share it with them.
The beginning of another month has rolled around again, and since we’re in the midst of some turbulent astrological energy, it’s nice to touch base and get an answer to the question of what we can do to get through the next few weeks in the best possible shape.
We had the page of cups in our tarot spread for August, so I’m wondering what it is that’s still around that we need to keep looking into now. Because as cool as it is to have a fish in a cup, I can’t help feeling that there’s a lesson here that we still need to learn. I think it’s about listening to those surprising nudges from the universe that are trying to keep us on track. When things are unsteady, we have a tendency to try to keep tight hold of control, even when it’s clear that that’s not possible. This little fish is our reminder that the universe is always trying to guide and direct us, but not always in the most obvious of ways!
Water in the tarot always represents emotions in some capacity. The cup here is the container for our emotions, and in this case it contains the unexpected. Watch out for your own emotional responses, or gut feelings. If a situation, person, or prospect makes you feel all kind of ways, look more deeply into that instead of ignoring it and carrying on with what is expected. Your gut feelings should never be ignored, even when the messages they have for you are surprising! These fish need to be investigated, so that you can make the best decision for yourself, even if – especially if – it’s new, different, or uncomfortable. The Page can be seen as a messenger, so perhaps the message he’s giving us here is an unexpected gift from our own subconscious. Look out for intuitive hits this month and thoughts that pop up out of nowhere, seemingly unrelated to what’s going on in front of you. You might find that you already have the answers that you’re seeking, present within you. Look out for synchronicities, coincidences, and signs this month, as well. This might manifest as a burst of creative inspiration, too, or the sudden urge to begin a new creative project. Be curious. Pay attention to any unusual thoughts or events that pop up, and ask why they’re coming to you now. The answers might surprise you, and move your life on in a different way!
The Heirophant speaks to us of established traditions, often spiritual or religious ones. We’re being asked to look at how these structures fit into our lives, or perhaps how our lives fit into these structures. Do you have a set of spiritual practices that you already follow? Is this something that you’ve done for many years, maybe unconsciously following patterns set in childhood? Perhaps now is the time to consider these more consciously. Interrogate why you do what you do, and how and in what ways it benefits you. The Heirophant suggests that we could use time this next month for a more formal study in a spiritual structure. This doesn’t mean a Bible study class or church sessions, unless that’s something that speaks to you, but it could be something like picking up a book or taking a course, and attending to your spiritual growth. Is there an area of your spiritual life which could do with some extra focus and attention? Taking it seriously would be good for you. This includes reading and learning from the wisdom of those guides, teachers, or mentors who are already established in the traditions that you follow. Maybe you yourself are the teacher or mentor, and it is time to share your wisdom in a more formal setting. Maybe this is your nudge to write a book or create a course so that people can learn and benefit from the wisdom you have amassed. Even a simple newsletter or blog that formalises some key concepts that you’ve learned might find the students who needed your voice on this subject.
The 10 of pentacles is super cheerful and perfect for this harvest time of year. We’re experiencing a bounty of foods to take us through the winter, and an abundance of joy, to last us through the cold months. This card shows us a wealth of abundance – sometimes literally in financial wealth, and sometimes in the things that are precious to us. 10 is the end of the cycle, so we’re being shown that all the hard work we’ve put in is being rewarded. Thank goodness! Look at what else is being shown on this glorious card. It’s a multigenerational family, indicating both the wisdom of the elders and the exuberance of youth. There are dogs, loyal and loving, and your home – the nice safe walls of your castle. You’ve provided for the people you love, either materially or emotionally, and your influence and generosity expand to include all those around you.
So what happens when you put all these things together? Given the spiritual nature of these cards, I think we can surmise that at least some of the focus of this month will be on deepening our spiritual practice, in whatever way that makes sense to you. Whether you are called to study or to teach, following the inspirations that lead you there will likely lead to fulfilment. It could also be a time of reaping what has been sown in previous months, and a reassurance that both continuing to follow your intuition, and keeping to a regular and reliable spiritual routine, will give you the stability and comfort that would be so appreciated at this eclipse-y, energetically unstable time!
Keep your eye on your emotional barometer, look out for unexpected fish. The universe has it’s eye on you, always, and your best interests at heart – keeping to your personal spiritual rituals will help you to keep in touch with the universe and more able to receive the messages it is sending you. The world – your world – is filled with joy and abundance, so please receive and accept it. You deserve it!
